Guernsey Park (GP) is making quite a reputation for itself in OKC. It’s considered one of the best restaurants in Oklahoma City.
I stopped by for a drink after lunch at Earl’s Rib Palace. Earl’s Rib Palace portions were massive, so I needed some coffee and some desert. The restaurant is very modern, trendy and LA-ish. It reminds me of restaurants in Silver Lake, CA. Silver Lake restaurants are converted homes and it has the same feel as Guernsey Park. To be honest, I was really surprised to see something that stylish in OKC. My own ignorance got the best of me.

I had carrot cake, a Remy Martin & Coke and an espresso. I was expecting it to be around $30-40 but the bill came out to be about $16. I was taken back a bit cause that’s super cheap. I’m from LA and I travel a lot. I’ve dined at some of the best restaurants in the world, so I have a pretty good idea of what I should be paying for food quality and service. I say that without the intention of sounding pretentious and douchie. I’m trying to make comparison regarding quality and service.
Now, I’ve dined at Covell Park. GP said the food is pretty much the same with slight changes. I didn’t considered that into my rating of GP, but this review is mainly for the carrot cake.
The carrot cake was impressive. I really like how the carrot was grated; it was used for garnish on top of the actual cake. The layers of the cake was soft but it had a dense texture with coarse crumb flakes. In addition, the ice cream on the cake was a nice touch. I really like the contrast between the warm carrot cake and the coldness of the ice cream. It’s definitely a must try.

Overall, I’ve dined a lot of Michelin restaurants and world’s 50 Best restaurants. I would have to say GP and Covell Park are both at least a Bib Gourmand if it was rated on the Michelin Guide. I was definitely taken back by how cheap it was for the quality of service and food. It’s definitely a must stop if you’re ever in OKC.
