How to get from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?  Is it hard?  It’s not that hard.  It’s actually very easy to do.  There are multiple options: bus, train, private taxi (i.e., monits) and shared vans (i.e. sheruts).  The train will take two hours to reach Jerusalem.  The private taxis and shared vans will take about an hour; however, those are the more expensive options.  Therefore, the best way to get to Jerusalem would be by bus because it takes about an hour and cost less than 5 USD.

The best bus route to take is at the Tel Aviv – Savidor Center not Tel Aviv Central Bus Station.  There’s a bus station right outside the train station; it’s really hard to miss in the morning as there are multiple buses outside the station.  The bus ride is approximately an hour and it’s on one of the coach buses instead of public buses. It drops passengers right outside the Jerusalem Central Bus Station; it’s the fastest and cheapest route to take to Jerusalem.  In addition, the Jerusalem Central Bus Station is the main transportation hub in Jerusalem where passengers can hop on other transportation options.   It’s only about 6 stops to the Old City on Tram 1 where it costs less than 2 USD to get to the Old City.  That’s how you get from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The route back to Tel Aviv is pretty much the opposite.  The departing bus station would be the Jerusalem Central Bus Station; however, the pick up point would be inside the station on the 4th floor.  There’s usually a long line in the late afternoon to evening as people try to head back to Tel Aviv.  The bus will drop passengers off at the Tel Aviv – Savidor Center.  At the Tel Aviv – Savidor Center, there are multiple public bus options to get to different parts of the city. They drop you back at the bus station.

Now, that’s how to get from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.  However, there is one thing to note when traveling between Jerusalem, Tel Aviv or other parts of Israel.  The Israeli weekend days are Friday and Saturday.  On Saturday, there are no public transportation options until around 7 PM.  It’ll be a good idea to plan Jerusalem day trips during Sunday to Friday to avoid any delay in transportation.
