Shakespeare & Co is located steps from the Dubai International Financial Centre.  It’s a coffee and tea house with a large menu; also, it has hookah options with air conditioning to help you cool off from the heat.  There’s free wifi to help you with your internet needs. Shakespeare & Co Dubai

Shakespeare & Co Cafe was on my agenda for breakfast.  However, breakfast usually doesn’t happen for me when I don’t have a day trip or something pressing to do in the morning.  The restaurant was a two blocks from hotel so it cause me to take my time in the morning.  I ate here twice during my trip to Dubai.  The first time was for an early dinner and the second time was breakfast before my day trip to Abu Dubai. When I got to Shakespeare, I decided to eat in the covered area outside the coffee-house.  As I walked in, the air conditioning quickly provided relief from the Dubai heat and the smell of hookah and cigarettes then engulfed my nostrils.  The place was filled with business professionals both in the morning and early afternoon.  The conversation ranged from US politics to Dubai local events. I sat in the same vicinity each time.  It was 10-15 feet from the entrance, so I could get some fresh air and keep cool in the heat.  The server brought the menu and I asked for the wifi password.  I looked through the menu as my wifi connected.  The menu consisted of Western foods with a dash of Middle Eastern dishes.  Here’s what I decided on: Shakespeare & Co Dubai

  1. Mixed Grill – The mixed grill was a carnivore’s delight and it would satisfy any big eater.  It came with grilled beef filet, chicken breast, lamb chops, turkey sausage, chili, coriander potatoes, grilled vegetables, cucumber herbs, and yogurt salsa.   The chicken breast were moist and flavorful; the beef filet was tender and had a nice taste to them; turkey sausages had a nice juicy bite; the lamb chops were a bit gamy.  However, the overall dish was tasty.

  2. Lollipop Chicken – The chicken drumsticks with mixed spices, buffalo sauce and vegetable samosa.  The tender pieces of drumsticks were drenched in the buffalo sauce; however, the buffalo sauce wasn’t too pungent in taste.  The vegetable samosa had a similar texture to Western spring rolls.

  3. Breakfast – The eggs any style came with roasted potatoes, mushrooms, grilled turkey sausages, and beef bacon.   The eggs were perfectly cooked; it was fluffy but it was a little runny at the same time.  The plump mushrooms provided a juicy contrast to the eggs; the firm potatoes were nice and seasoned well.  The turkey sausages had a nice juicy bite to them similar to Chicago hot dogs; the beef bacon was lean and not as salty as pork bacon.

Shakespeare was a fantastic restaurant.  I left satisfied each time I ate here.  The service was fantastic.  The servers were really helpful and prompt with my requests.  The only drawback to Shakespeare would be that it’s not an authentic Emirate restaurant but the food and service definitely made up for it.  I would definitely recommend them for breakfast if you are staying anywhere near the Financial Centre.
