Das Meisterstück was a last minute decision of mine. As I returned from the Reichstag Dome, I was a little hungry and wanted a mid-day snack before dinner. I decided to give them a try since it was only a few blocks from my hotel. I grabbed my umbrella, my backpack then head towards them. It was a Wednesday night right after 5 PM, but it was pitch dark in mid-November.
As I arrived, Das Meisterstück was completely empty and it seemed like they were just getting ready for the night. I was greeted by a very sweet blue eyed and blonde hair woman who had a smile that could brighten up Berlin’s dark sky outside. She barely spoke English but she took my order and insisted I sit down to relax while my food was being prepare. I sat down on one of the bar tables and asked if I could order a beer. She kindly replied “Of course”.
She brought my beer to me then she went about her business setting up the tables for dinner. As I waited, my eyes browse Das Meisterstück’s decor and large open kitchen. There’s a large selection of bratwurst and it’s fully listed on the chalkboard above the kitchen. The decor was a bit rustic yet it had a hipster feel to it. The light wood around the restaurant with random pieces of decorations hanging from the walls.
The cook hailed me over when he was done preparing my food. I finished my beer, paid the bill then headed back to the comfort of my hotel. The chopped bratwurst was laid in a curry sauce and sprinkled with some spices. It was served with a dinner roll. The barely cooked sausage tasted cold and I thought it was from my 3 minute walk. However, as I ate it, it seemed like it was barely cooked. It didn’t have a bite to it although the curry sauce was a decent. It was a bit disappointing to eat and I can’t say I would recommend them to anybody.
