Modern Pastry is one of the many cannoli shops in the North End of Boston. The issue with all the cannoli shops is they all have massive lines.
There’s no escaping the wait for one of Boston’s famous delectable treats. Modern Pastry is on Hanover St. Hanover Street is filled with restaurants, bars, bakeries, and churches. While I wonder the street, I admire the scene as it’s the only street in America where a human being can indulge in gluttony then go next door to confess his sins while smelling like alcohol. As tempted as it was, I decided to hold off on over-indulging in cannolis and Samuel Adams Boston Lagers. Modern Pastry Boston

It was a little after noon when the road brought me to Modern Pastry. The little bakery had a line stretching two stores down with seats completely occupied with college students discussing their upcoming projects and lectures. It was a line filled with mainly tourists as most people only bought a few items to taste. The locals were distinguish by the large boxes filled with treats and cake. Modern Pastry Boston

As I inched closer to the register, there are glass cases showcasing Modern Pastry’s American and Italian treats. The sea of cannolis, torrone and cakes line the store along with an area to order some of their specialty drinks. The mad rush of knowing what you want once you enter escaped me and my cover was blown when I didn’t know what I wanted to try. I felt like foreigner waiting at the cross walk in Boston or New York as locals jail walk. Modern Pastry Boston
Now, the treats: Modern Pastry Boston
- Torrone – The Italian candy was fairly large. It had a firm texture but it was also soft and chewy. The nuts brought an earthy taste to it and the candy itself wasn’t too sweet. It wasn’t memorable as their cannoli.
Torrone - Cannoli – The delicate cannoli took care to handle and eat. The outer shell barely held together the filling; the filing was light and draped with chocolate chips. The creamy filling wasn’t sweet and the sweetness was barely noticeable. The vanilla was very subtle and the chocolate chips were very distinct.
Cannoli
Boston is a town known for clam chowder and lobsters from Neptune Oyster. In addition, Boston has growing fine dining scene with O Ya and Menton. I find it hard to exclude Modern Pastry’s cannoli as it was the highlight of their abundant American and Italian treats. Modern Pastry Boston
