The 12 Apostles is one of the most famous sites in Australia. It’s to Australia as Big Ben is to London. It’s to Australia like the Hollywood sign is to Los Angeles. It’s to Australia like Central Park is to New York.
The 12 Apostles is off the shores of Port Campbell in Victoria, Australia. It’s approximately 3-4 hours north of Melbourne by the Great Ocean Road. It’s a collection of limestone stacks and only eight Apostles are still left to view.
The apostles were were caused by years of erosion from the Southern Ocean. The harsh weather conditions gradually eroded the limestone that form caves in the ocean side; the caves gradually collapsed and left the rocks known as the 12 Apostles. It’s a major tourist attraction and a must stop while in Victoria. Also, check out Loch Ard Gorge. It’s amazing.
