Donghuámén Night Market

I’ve encountered many food markets, food festivals, and street vendors throughout my travels; I’ve been to all the famous Taipei and Keelung night markets.  I’ve been to the Hong Kong and Shanghai night markets.  I’ve been to the South America’s Mistura.  I’ve eaten at a good number of taco stands in Mexicao.  However, Wangfujing Snack Street and Donghuámén Night Market are two different kind of beasts. Wangfujing Snack Street and Donghuámén Night Market are two blocks from each other.  Wangfujing Snack Street is the more grimy one of the two.  It’s the congested, smells and the food stalls are dirty.  The food vendors are waving you in to try one of their many meats on a stick. Wangfujing Snack Street

Wangfujing Snack Street sale an assortment of taboo meats on a stick.  When I say taboo, animal by products Westerners don’t usually eat like cow hearts.  Some vendors even have seahorses and tomato bugs on a stick.  It’s definitely a sight to see.  Wangfujing Snack Street Beijing . Donghuámén Night Market is located across from the APM mall and the cleaner of the two night markets even though its located on the sidewalk.  The food vendors go for a block and are lined up on the sidewalk.  There are potatoes on a stick, dumplings, noodles and other items Westerners will consume; however, the majority of the food are very similar to the Wangfujing Snack Street.  Wangfujing Snack Street Beijing . Donghuámén Night Market has an array of insects on a stick and animal by products.   The picture below depicts the different insects on a stick like centipedes, spiders, and even snakes.  It’s quite an intimating sight for any Westerners; however, it makes for a great story to tell when you return on your vacation.  I personally find it fascinating the different things people around the world eat.  Wangfujing Snack Street Beijing . Now, I have to admit.  I’ve eaten a lot of adventurous things in my life but I couldn’t get myself to eat some of the insects.  I actually bought a spider on the stick but I couldn’t get myself to do it.  Overall, it was a lot of fun to walk by and check out some of the things Beijing locals consume.  I mean this place was packed starting from 5 PM to 10 PM.
